Eight-way hand-tied is the gold standard for sofa and chair spring systems. Each coil spring is hand-tied to its neighbors in eight directions — front, back, left, right, and the four diagonals — using twine. The result is a spring system that flexes evenly under weight and lasts for generations.
It's labor-intensive and slow to do, which is why almost no modern factory furniture uses it. Most modern furniture uses sinuous (S-shaped) springs, which are perfectly fine but don't compare to eight-way hand-tied in terms of long-term comfort and durability. We can install or restore either system.
We're happy to talk through your specific situation. No pressure, no commitment.
