The Approach

An Overview of the Work

Lake Tahoe boat upholstery is its own discipline — six-thousand-foot UV intensity, snowmelt-cold water, occasional dog claws, and a season that runs from April to October. The materials that survive that environment are different from the ones that work in a living room. We have been working on Tahoe boats for forty-five years; we know what holds up.

Marine work moves seasonally — most clients schedule winter for an April relaunch.

The Process

How We Work

  1. Boat inspection

We meet you at your boat (or trailered at your home) to inspect the seating, document configuration, and discuss vinyl/fabric direction.

  2. Pattern templating

Each cushion, backrest, and skirt panel is templated separately. Marine seating is rarely consistent piece-to-piece, even within the same boat.

  3. Marine-grade fabrication

Foam cores are closed-cell marine foam (not residential PU). Threads are UV-stable Tenara or Solarfix. Seams are double-needle marine stitch. Snaps are bronze or stainless.

  4. Installation

Cushions are returned to your boat or to your storage. We can also coordinate with your marina for direct relaunch.

The Right Material

Marine vinyl is the dominant material — Spradling and Morbern offer the durability and color fastness Tahoe sun requires. For pontoon and bench seating, Sunbrella Horizon (a hybrid woven/vinyl) reads more like fabric while delivering vinyl performance.

Pricing & Range

Typical Range
$3,500–$15,000+
Small runabout cushion sets sit at the lower end. Full ski-boat reupholstery (cockpit, bow seats, engine cover, swim platform) sits at the upper end. Riva and high-end performance boats are quoted separately given the heritage hide work.

All commissions begin with a complimentary in-home estimate and a written scope. No project moves forward without your written approval of the cost and timeline.

Common Questions

Questions & Answers

When should I bring my boat in?

Schedule with us by January for an April relaunch. Last-minute spring work is possible but pushes into peak season pricing.

Can you match my factory color?

Spradling and Morbern offer most factory match colors. Riva, Chris-Craft, and other heritage brands sometimes require custom dye-match.

Will the cushions survive Tahoe sun?

Yes. Marine vinyl is UV-rated for 5+ years of full Tahoe exposure. Tenara thread (UV-stable) does not fail at the seam, which is where most lake-cushion failures occur.

Do you handle pontoon boats?

Yes — pontoon bench seating, including L-shape and U-shape configurations.

Boat covers?

We focus on seating upholstery. For covers, we refer to a local marina canvas specialist.
